On the staff of General Crittenden, during the march to Chattanooga, Tenn., and engaged at the battles of Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain, and Missionary Ridge. Quartermaster of the Signal Corps of Sherman's army. Second Lieutenant U. S. Signal Corps, March, 1863. Reported for duty to General Curtis, at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., June, 1864. Engaged in the pursuit of the rebel General Price, and at the actions at Little Blue, Big Blue, Maria des Cygnes, and Newtonia, Kan. Made survey of the Central Route for the Pacific Railroad, from Fort Riley, Kan., to the Rocky Mountains, July to August, 1865. Brevet Captain U. S. Volunteers, for distinguished services during the war. Second Lieutenant 17th U. S. Infantry, February, 1866. Joined regiment at Hart's Island, New-York Harbor. Transferred to the 35th U. S.
