Waxahachie, Texas, April 22, 1897. To the Colored Teachers of Texas:
Fellow Teachers: The executive committee has changed the place and time for the next meeting of the State association from Marshall on June 8-11, to Waco on June 29 -July 2. This change is made because it has been learned that the time will be more suitable for many of the teachers, and because it will be possible to obtain cheaper rates on account of the meeting of the white teachers' association at Waco at that time. The complete program will be ready shortly and will be sent to each member of the association and to any one else who may request it.
I wish to say further that we are called upon to use our influence in behalf of the movement which has for its object the organization at our next meeting of an association of the colored teachers of the
South. The very able call which appeared in the Southwestern Christian Advocate of New Orleans waw issued at the instance of our teachers b1' the following committee: П. Б. Fry, principal of the Deaf, Dumb and Blind Institute; E. L. Blackshear, principal of Prairie View State Normal School; A. 0. Coffin, professor in Alcorn College, Mississippi; I. B. Scott, editor Southwestern Christian Advocate, New Orleans, Liu.; L. C. Anderson, principal high school, Austin; F. W. Gross, principal high school, Victoria; H. T. Kealing, editor A. M. E. Review, Philadelphia, Pa.; and S. J. Jenkins, superintendent Deaf, Dumb and Blind Asylum, Austin. We can aid this movement by giving publicity to the call and by urging fellow teachers whom we know in other States to meet us at Waco.
J.
W. TILDÓN,
Pres. Col. T. S. A.
The State Teachers' Association will adopt a new plan this year for the collection of membership fees. The purchaser of a railroad ticket to Waco during the convention will pay 50 cents to the agent in addition to the cost of the ticket. The funds so collected will, of course, be turned over to the treasurer of the association.
