| Upshur County Creeks |
Many of the early settlements in Marion County were established on a river or a creek. A typical settlement had a grist mill powered by the water of a creek. A grist mill is a building in which grain is ground into flour. A grist mill is also referred to as a corn mill or flour mill. Later, when lumber became big business the creeks supplied the power to run the saw mills.
