| CAMPBELL, DONALD (1830-1871). He was
also elected a delegate to the Constitutional Convention
of 1868-69,qv to fill the unexpired position of another
Marion County Unionist, Rev. Aaron Grimsby.Campbell won
election to the Texas Senate in 1870. CALDWELL, COLBERT On October 18, 1867, he was appointed associate justice of the Texas Supreme Court by Gen. Philip H. Sheridan,qv commander of the Fifth Military District. Charles Haughn Republicans during the Reconstruction era were Donald Campbell, Colbert Caldwell, Charles Haughn, and A. G. Malloy- Adam G. Singleton served, variously, as sheriff of Harrison County, Deputy United States Marshall and District County Clerk of Jefferson, and United States Commissioner. ARMISTEAD, WILLIAM THOMAS Armistead was a delegate to every state Democratic convention from 1874 through 1889, a member of the House of Representatives in the Eighteenth and Nineteenth legislatures, a senator in the Twentieth and Twenty-first legislatures, and a representative in the Twenty-fourth Legislature. CULBERSON, DAVID BROWNING Culberson was elected in 1873 to the state Senate; he resigned when he was elected to the Forty-fourth Congress of the United States. He was reelected for ten successive terms and served from March 4, 1875, to March 3, 1897 CRAWFORD, WILLIAM LYNE After the Civil Warqv he returned to Jefferson and was admitted to the bar in 1866. He was a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1875. MABRY, HINCHE PARHAM He later served in the Constitutional Convention of 1866qv and was elected to preside over the Eighth Judicial District. Federal military authorities replaced him a year later, however. Mabry continued to practice law in Jefferson until 1879, when he moved to Fort Worth. TAYLOR, MARION DEKALB In 1872 he was again a delegate to the Democratic State Convention, and in 1876, 1878, and 1880 he served as president. In 1879 he again represented the Jefferson District in the Sixteenth Legislature of Texas, and he attended the Democratic State Convention for the last time in 1888 TODD, GEORGE T. He was elected district attorney of the Eighth Judicial District and held the office until he was removed as an "impediment to Reconstruction." In February. From January 11, 1881, to March 5, 1882, Todd represented the Eleventh District in the House of the Seventeenth Legislature. After leaving office he continued to be active in state politics. Todd attended the Democratic state conventions of 1882 and 1886, the Antiprohibition state convention in 1887, and the State Freight Rate Convention in 1889 |
