Trees Planted by the Water: Early African American Legislators

The old capitol building  was first occupied by the Sixth Legislature, November 5, 1855. It was the setting for the 1866, 1868, and the 1875 Constitutional Conventions. This building was destroyed by fire in November, 1881.
