Beacons of Light: The Education of the Afro-Texan

William Massey, ex-slave, minister, and educator. He was one of two Freedmen's Bureau's teachers in Marshall, Texas. Most Afro-Texans, by a sizable margin, were Baptists. He was one of the founders and served as the first president of the Afro-Texan Baptist's statewide convention for fourteen years.
